3D Printed Antenna Winder

3D Printed Antenna Winder

Staying organized in the field is vital to a fast and frustration-free remote operation. Print a few of these winders to manage your ropes and wire antennas between operations.

The antenna winder can be used for either the antenna, or the supporting rope. Printed actual size, it will easily handle a 50' length of 1/8" paracord, or an End Fed Half Wave antenna for 40 or 80M.

The design includes a carry handle on one side which makes re-winding the antenna much easier than on some simpler designs that are out there.

I used PETG filament to print the winder as that has good UV resistance and won't get soft in the warm summer weather that we have here in Kansas.

There are holes in the ends of each of the forks on the winder. These are conveniently sized to fit a small carabiner clip which is permanently left attached to the end of the rope.

The carabiner can be attached quickly to an arborist throw bag, or to the end of the antenna wire, assuming you leave a loop or insulator at the end.

A full 50' length of paracord will fit onto the spool, and stows nicely in the Go Box. I generally carry three of these lengths, although two is probably sufficient for most operations.
