Protective Cover for Yaesu FT-891

Protective Cover for Yaesu FT-891

The Yaesu FT-891 is a great portable rig for Parks On The Air (POTA) and other applications that involve traveling with the radio. The front panel is particularly fragile with the knobs and LCD panel.

To help protect the fagile investment, I constructed a 3D printed cover that can be printed. The STL file is located in the Resources section at the right.

The STL file is just a flat face, but if you'd like to emboss it with your callsign, you can likely use your slicer of choice.

Using the PrusaSlicer, open the slicer and import the STL file. Once it is showing on the bed inside of the slicer, press 'T' to add text to the object.

Enter your callsign or whatever text you'd like on the front face and adjust the size as appropriate. In the Operation section at the bottom, select Cut to inset the text into the face of the cover. Adjust the Depth to a value of 2.00mm.

To print the cover, select the object and rotate it 180 degrees so that the face sits on the print bed.

Enable Suports to create a nice print surface of the text.
